Objectives

  • To impart Population Education, Health Education and non-formal Social Education in terms of adult literacy through village library service and cultural activities.
  • To train the youth, the students and the women in the fields of national reconstruction, energy development, environmental protection, cleanliness, sanitation, child care and nutrition.
  • To study the plight of the poor in semi-urban and urban centers, slum dwellers, child laborers, and in-migrants of Tamil Nadu.
  • To identify the problem relating to the physically handicapped, the destitute, the orphans, the widows, the old and displaced women in the rural and urban areas and to take suitable rehabilitative measures for them through sheltered programmes.
  • To arrange, undertake, support others for organizing Conference, lectures, discourses, for imparting knowledge among masses for material and spiritual upliftment of the people.
  • To run educational institutions and prepare, publish and support for publishing the general and any other kind of books and texts and train people to impart true education and to import education by opening any institution, school, college, etc., for importing general as well as vocational education.
  • Advancement, promotion and spread of education, science, art, literature, and the establishment, maintenance and support of college, schools, educational institutions, hostels, libraries, reading rooms or other educational institutions, providing grants, aids (financial or otherwise). Donations, loans, scholarships. Fees and prize and to arrange, organize lectures, debates, discussions, seminars and excursions for the diffusion of knowledge and for education for the benefit of the public.
  • Medical relief and / or maintenance of the sick and / or establishment, maintenance and support of or donations to one or more hospitals, dispensaries, nursing homes, medicals and utilization of funds for medical relief of all kinds and to organize, equip and maintain hospitals, mobile medical centers, maternity homes. Medical camps, etc., thereby rendering medical aid it the needy and poor people.
  • To run help lines and counseling centre for aged person women and children.
  • To promote and develop agriculture, irrigation and animal husbandry, which are beneficial to the small farmers and rural upliftment

Brevity of the Organization.

Health Education and Development Society (HEADS), a Non Governmental Organization was established in the year 1991 with the view to render services for the upliftment of downtrodden and the needy people for the past 28 years and has been excelling in the same.

It is well aware that HEADS was promoted by some of our youth team members emerged from rural settings and started as a service organization with the mission of “empowering oppressed community through education, awareness and participation on development services”. It was started in the year 1991 and got registered under Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act 1975. Being started as a small local organization providing voluntary services in 5 villages in and around Nallur village in Kulithalai Block in Karur District, at present it is working in 45 villages in Kulithalai, Thogamalai, Krishnarayapuram and Aravakurichi Blocks in Karur District. There are 30 staff members in the field and administration in addition to 45 Volunteers.

HEADS has implemented various schemes and programmes as institutional as well as non institutional services for the socially disadvantaged groups such as women in distress living in poor and difficult circumstances, children, adolescents and youth and old age persons in the target area.

The activities of HEADS have been founded on Family Counseling Centre, Short Stay Home (Swadhar Greh),National action plan for senior citizens (NAPSrC), Integrated complex of special homes for senior citizens and destitute children and various awareness activities and medical camps.
